During October 5th, the Federal cavalry division re-emerged from the direction of Sylamore and Locust Grove and made contact with Dibble's Brigade near the F. M. Baird farm. Dibble chose not to engage and fell back through Buffalo City (which was by that time unoccupied) and then to Yellville with the Federal horsemen close behind. Dibble went into Yellville town and the Federal cavalry stopped at Jobe Hill, to the southeast of town.
Division Commander Brigadier General Robert Ewing looked out from Jobe Hill around 5:00 p.m. and could see that there was a lot of infantry in Yellville town. Haggerty's main force had been detected.
Players are now preparing orders for the night of 5th - 6th October....
