The Army of the Arkansas' 5th Division was ably commanded by Maj. Gen. Louis M. Nagle during WIA3, with Brig. Gen. Dennis Bradley commanding the 1st Brigade. Bradley's Brigade held the line in the open field and in support of Federal Batteries during much of the battle of Crane, before moving into the South Younger Woods to assault the Department of the Eastern Frontier's 7th Division.
Maj. Gen. Nagle has transferred to a command in another army, and Brig. Gen. Nagle has been promoted to Maj. Gen. and given command of the division. Col. Frank Samm (157th Illinois Regiment) has taken command of the 1st Brigade, 1st Division and Lieut. Col. Abram Betz is in command of the 157th Illinois.
Has Louis Nagle perhaps "transferred to a command" in a "Branch" of the Confederate Army?? And who's this other Nagle? Are they related?
