During Day One of THE OZARKS CAMPAIGN, the Army of the Arkansas crossed the White River at North Fork and Talbots Ferry and advanced to the southwest. The I Corps (Army of the Arkansas) encountered some cavalry near Buffalo City, but was able to continue is march to Big Flat without delay. The III Corps (AOA) was not so fortunate. It left Talbot's Ferry and headed west on the Military Road to Yellville and then moved south on the Clinton Road towards Tomahawk. Before reaching Tomahawk, it ran into the Department of the Eastern Frontier's III Corps and a standoff ensued at a place called Burns Creek. Federal cavalry was also stopped near Sylamore on the east bank of the river.
Day Two of the campaign is drawing and orders are starting to come in. Will the two III Corps engage, maintain the standoff at Burns Creek, or withdraw? Will Stanley press further south? We shall see how the die is cast this week....
