OZARKS CAMPAIGN INTELLIGENCE: OPENING POSITIONS

The Army of the Arkansas and Department of the Eastern Frontier are in the campaign theatre in full force. The location of their encampments on the night of October 14th and early morning hours of October 15th 1864 are now known. The Corps for each army have been identified. Cavalry encampments are known, but not identified by specific brigades.

Positions on the night of October 14th:

Army of the Arkansas:

I Corps (Stanley): Encamped at North Fork
II Corps (Piatt): Encamped at Rapp's Barren
III Corps (Adams): Encamped at Talbot's Ferry
1 cavalry brigade at Bennett's Bayou
2 cavalry brigades at Mt. Olive

Department of the Eastern Frontier:

I Corps (Gowan): Encamped at Richwoods with one cavalry brigade
II Corps (Gregg): Encamped at Locust Grove with one cavalry brigade
III Corps (Hawley) Encamped at Lebanon with one cavalry brigade
