WIA3 Coming....

Preparations are under way for THE WAR IN ARKANSAS III, a competitive campaign simulation that will include up to 12 players. The Army of the Arkansas will have its base of supply in Hot Springs, with the Department of the Eastern Frontier in Greenville. Each army will have two divisions in reserve guarding their bases of supply during the campaign, with an additional five divisions of infantry and one division of cavalry in the field.

The campaign with be scored using a point system. Midway is a strategic crossroads in the center of the campaign theatre and the only locality other than the strongly fortified bases of supply to contribute to daily points. We can probably expect fighting at and around Midway, but we shall see how the two armies' strategies develop and intersect across the campaign theatre.

Divisions are being assigned over the next week. The Army Commanders will have direct command over the armies' cavalry and headquarters units. In the Department of the Eastern Frontier, Lieut. General Jake, one of the players from WIA2, has chosen to take Gowan's Division into the field in WIA3, so we can expect to be seeing more of Gowan, with Brig. Gen. Wales' mixed brigade of Missouri, Texas and Arkansas regiments, Norris' Louisiana Brigade and Curtis' Georgians ( and the 19th Florida). Gowan also takes Gage's Arkansas Battery of 20 pound parrott rifles onto the field. The only battery of 20 pounders in the department. Gage's Battery showed some promise in its brief appearance at the end of the Battle of Tulip Creek and proved itself effective at Baird / White Fox Tavern.

2nd Kentucky is taking Stanley's Division into WIA3. Stanley was eventually forced from most of the trench line at White Fox Tavern, but only after stubborn fighting and inflicting heavy losses on Black's, Rectors and Schuyler's Brigades. Hammond's Brigade slowly re-adjusted its position and fell back to dress the line on its own terms. Osgood was driven out of the trenches by a flank attack, but lost none of its regiments routed and returned to the field. Clay repulsed and devastated Rector's Brigade early in the fight and fought tenaciously against Black's Brigade. Stanley had also fought against the same enemy division at Tulip Creek with significant success. Most of gun crews in Richardson's Battery F, Kentucky Light Artillery are of good or veteran quality, making their 12 pounders a force to be reckoned with in any assault against them.

THE WAR IN ARKANSAS III is scheduled to start early in January.
