Hampton,
May 6th – 6:00 a.m.
Brig.
Gen. Hiram S. Weaver,
Chief of
Staff,
GENERAL: Was with Randall’s Brigade, Hackett’s
Division at Red Fork. Enemy on opposite bank. Crossing difficult without
pontoons if opposed. Randall’s Brigade
small. Enemy may attempt to drive away with artillery and then cross.
Hackett patrolling towards Midway, no enemy sighted
in his sector with exception of Arkansas Post across from Randall.
All quiet along III Corps positions at Princeton,
Relf’s Bluff and Cache Marse. Went with
Maj. Gen. Cameron to inspect lines yesterday. Lines well deployed to defend
assigned positions. Maj. Gen. Cameron
believes enemy must be holding defensive line near Pine Bluff, because there is
no sign of enemy advance with exception of Arkansas Post.
Heading to II Corps HDQTRES in Murfreesboro today
via Cache Marse and Arkadelphia.
Your
obedient servant,
Capt. JOHN
R. ROWE
Aide de
Camp
