Turn 1 of Day 8 reports are out for all units not engaged at Sylamore. Sylamore reports will be out tomorrow and the ending time for the turn will be declared.
There was some action at Bennett's Bayou. The advance of the III Corps (AOA) led by its 2nd Division was opposed by Randall's and Martin's Brigade. Col. Joseph Rutter, commanding 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, III Corps was killed in the action, as was the illustrious cavalry commander, Brigadier General Benjamin C. Martin. Col Albert Tyson of the 27th Arkansas Cavalry was also killed, leaving Martin's Brigade (3rd Brigade, Cavalry Division, Department of the Eastern Frontier) in command of Col. John D. Smith of the 32rd Arkansas Cavalry.
