McCall at Wilson's Junction

Squeezing between Wales' right and Bowden's left, the 1st and 2nd Brigades of McCall's Division (2/II/DEF) charged up the Sylamore Road against Sourwait's Brigade. They fired and then charged, as Bowden's men continued to advance against the junction from Strand Knob, Bluff Springs and the south. McCall's charge threw back the last of the rear guard at the junction.  Mallory had moved his division off in good order, but Steward and Sourwait were driven back. They had, however, held long enough to allow the rest of the I Corps to move well north up the freight road to another rear guard action being fought by Faulker's Brigade (3/3/I/AOA) and elements of Mallory's Division against Swain's men coming from the west.

McCall may have come in for the final blow at the junction, but the heavy work was done by Wales and Bowden.
