With the rest of the I Corps Army of the Arkansas heading north, Maj. Gen. Clinton Swain's Division advancing from the west, and Maj. Gen. Edward Bowden's Division advancing from the South, Col. James Satterfield's brigade (3/2/I/AOA) was the last of the Federal rear guard. While much of the I Corps left the field in extreme haste, Satterfield ordered his brigade to about face and march off the field.
So ended the fight at Locust Grove on October 16th - from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The engage resulted in a total of over 7,500 casualties. Reports will be out on Sunday.
Locust Grove is no longer a battle map.
At 11:30, I/AOA will start at Big Flat. It has the option of:
1. Staying at Big Flat
2. Attempting to Return to Locust Grove
3. Moving to Buffalo City
At 11:30 there are two Confederate corps at Locust Grove. Because Locust Grove is no longer a battle map, I/DEF and II DEF must split up and cannot be on the same map during the next turn. One Corps may stay at Locust Grove, but one must leave to Big Flat, Lebanon, Sylamore or Wiley's Cove. (Or both Corps could depart to different towns).
