Army of the Arkansas:
Colonel Stanley Sharp of the 32nd Michigan has replaced Colonel William Stafford (KIA), commanding 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, II Corps, Army of the Arkansas.
Colonel John Harvey of the 63rd Kentucky has replaced Colonel Jacob Miller (KIA), commanding 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, III Corps, Army of the Arkansas.
Department of the Eastern Frontier:
Colonel Thomas Dowd of the 30th Arkansas Cavalry has replaced Brigadier General William Dibble (KIA), commanding 1st Brigade, Cavalry Division, Department of the Eastern Frontier.
For those who followed the WIA series, Colonel Dibble was the commander of the 26th Arkansas Cavalry at the start of WIA2. The 26th Arkansas was originally part of Randall's Brigade, but was detached on duty during the early phases of WIA2, during which there was a lot of cavalry action. The 26th was with Brig. Gen. Holcomb's (1st) Brigade during an engagement at Midway in May, when Holcomb was killed. Command of the Brigade temporarily passed on to the senior commander of 1st Brigade, but was then transferred Dibble as the senior cavalry officer on the field. The cavalry division was later re-organized with the 26th (under then Lieutenant Colonel Orin Smith) being permanently assigned to the brigade. Dibble Commanded 1st Brigade through the rest of WIA2. He was promoted to Brigadier General and commanded the brigade through all of WIA3 and up into the rear guard action near Tomahawk Creek on Day 2 of THE OZARKS CAMPAIGN (WIA4), when he was killed in action with Colonel Frank Samm's Brigade of the Army of the Arkansas 2nd Division, II Corps.
