Colonel John S. Woods was severely wounded at the front of his brigade (2/3/XXVI) as it engaged Norris' Brigade (2/3/II) on the west side of the Princeton Road. Woods and his brigade spent the morning in a reserve position in the woods behind Stanley's (2nd) Division. At around 4:00 p.m., his brigade was moved with the rest of 3rd Division to the south to meet the advancing enemy 3rd Division (Gowan). Woods is believed to have fallen to fire from the 31st Louisiana. Command of the brigade has passed to Colonel Samuel C. Stratton of the 64th Kentucky.
No other brigade or division commander were reported as casualties during the fighting on the 10th.
