Federal Regimental Losses on May 10th

The losses in the Federal XXVI Corps were also high at Tulip Creek. The five regiments with the highest numerical losses, however, also had the heaviest losses as a percentage of those engaged. The 64th Missouri lost the most men on the field from either army, both in terms of men lost and casualties as a % of men engaged.

1. 64th Missouri Infantry (2/2/XXVI - Hammond's Brigade): 233 men (52%)
2. 203rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry (3/3/XXVI - Anderson's Brigade): 122 men (31%)
3. 180th Illinois Volunteer Infantry (2/3/XXVI - Woods' Brigade): 106 men (20%)
4. 167th Indiana Volunteer Infantry (2/2/XXVI - Hammond's Brigade): 103 men (23%)
5. 58th Missouri Infantry (3/2/XXVI - Clay's Brigade): 101 men (20%)

Hammond's Brigade (2/2/XXVI) had the heaviest loss with 472 men (87k, 317w, 68m). Hammond's Brigade was deployed just north of the junction on the right of Hudson's Battery and suffered all of its losses during the morning attack. During the afternoon attack, it was held in reserve in the rear.

Only four regimental field commanders were lost, two of whom were captured:

176th Indiana Volunteer Infantry: Colonel Samuel Wilson, killed

64th Missouri Infantry: Lieutenant Colonel John M. McConnell, captured

167th Indiana Volunteer Infantry: Colonel Henry Steward, wounded

58th Missouri Infantry: Colonel Robert J. Douthitt, captured
