Returns and Recruitment

There were significant losses on both sides at Tulip Creek on May 10th.  On May 15th, both armies will receive bi-monthly returns, which give the present, absent and aggregate total number of men per regiment. These figures are adjusted each time a unit suffers casualties. Killed and Missing are removed from the aggregate total. Wounded men are moved from present to absent. Before the May 15th returns are completed, further adjustments will be made:

1.       Sick: A percentage of men present will be added to those sick in hospital and removed from those present for duty. (Randomized model)

2.       Died in Hospital or Discharged: A percentage of the men sick and wounded in the hospital will die or be discharged and removed from those absent the aggregate total. (Randomized model)

3.       Returned Convalescents: Some men in the hospital will be returned to their regiments, decreasing those absent, increasing those present, but not affecting the aggregate total. (Randomized model)
Recruitment: Commanders are reminded of the rules regarding recruitment. By occupying a major town for an uninterrupted period of two weeks, a regiment of 800 men can be raised. A few new regiments would go a long way to replacing combat losses. Recruitment activities and the disruption of enemy recruitment activities may form a component of a long term campaign strategy. (It is unlikely to be all over in one or two major engagements.)
