The skirmish lines between Stevens and Pickett were quiet throughout May 9th. Col. Herling detached two regiments for other duties, with one clearly visible on Eagle Hill all day long. Col. Dibble detached a regiment to scout south along Tulip Ridge and it sighted Federal infantry resting along the Princeton Road before returning to report at Stevens.
Just at dusk Confederate infantry began arriving at the Stevens Farm on Tulip Ridge, coming from Willow. Campfires now line the road between the Willow - Princeton Road Junction and Tulip Church where Federals are encamped, and around the Stevens Farm to their northwest where II Corps infantry has arrived on the field.
Martin and Marple did not re-engage since after their morning encounter at Elm Hill. Marple retired back to Greenville and Martin is bivouacking at the A. Franklin house.
Will Tulip be the next major engagement of the campaign...
