It looks unlikely that there will be a major battle between the concentrated armies before the end of the simulation. Corps vs. Corps engagements at different locations are more likely. At 7:50 a.m., we have:
I Corps (AOA) vs. I Corps (DEF) at North Fork: Stanley's I Corps (AOA) has crossed the White River near the J. Martin farm and started ascending Blevins Ridge on the east side of the river, south of the Blevins Farm. Gowan's I Corps (DEF) anticipated the crossing and rushed a brigade and battery to opposing the crossing, but it was just a little two far. AOA forces are between the river's edge the crest of Blevins Ridge. DEF forces are spread out, with Wales' Division around the Morton Creek Ford on Military Road, Swain's Division with one brigade at Blevins Ridge and two brigades on the road on Goat Ridge and Bowden's Division at Martin's Ferry. All of this is under the observation of Kraft's Cavalry Brigade (AOA) on the Push Mountain Bluffs.
III Corps (AOA) vs. II Corps (DEF) at Pilot Hill: Adams' III Corps (AOA) cleared the Chamte Farm of cavalry and was advancing towards Pilot Hill town when Confederate infantry (Gregg's II Corps - DEF) was sighted. The III Corps had deployed on the south edge of Sweet Gum Ridge, facing the Moore Branch of Spring River. II Corps is deployed on the southern side of Moore Branch. Two brigades of Confederate Cavalry were recently seen in the area.
II Corps (AOA) vs. III Corps (DEF) at Mt. Olive: After maneuvering the Haggerty's Corps (III Corps DEF) out of position on the ridge east of Sylamore Bottom, Piatt's II Corps (AOA) followed Haggerty on the Sylamore Road toward Mt. Olive. Haggerty's Corps will start near Wildcat Ford (P. Young and D. Jeffries households) and Piatt's II Corps will start near D. Hively. Herling's Brigade of Cavalry (AOA) was operating with the II Corps at Sylamore and may be present at Mt. Olive.
What will the weekend hold? Orders due on Friday - Call up the Division Commanders.
The II Corps in each army have been very active and have been submitting full sets of orders from Corps and Division Commanders as we have moved into tactical mode.
Both of the III Corps have had their Corps Commanders indisposed at various times and had to hand over Corps Command to another officer on a temporary basis. Maj. Gen. Adams (III Corps AOA) is rumored to be back in the saddle again.
