WIA Series

THE WAR IN ARKANSAS is a series of command simulations using the fictional Army of the Arkansas (US) and the Department of the Eastern Frontier (CS). The series has been on-going for some time and through several campaigns.  The current simulation is THE OZARKS CAMPAIGN, which has reached October 22nd 1864 in the alternate history created by WIA.

The link below is of a blog post from November 2013, covering June 1st 1864 during the WIA2 simulation. (OZARKS CAMPAIGN is WIA4.)  The short post in the link below mentions

- Kraft's Brigade (US), which was engaged at Tomahawk in the current simulation and is now on Push Mountain Bluff observing the I Corps DEF.

- Randall's Brigade (CS), which has been fighting a delaying action against III Corps AOA at Bennett's Bayou and the Chamte Farm.  Randall had erroneously been reported killed at the Battle of Crane, but is still on the field.

- Rooney's Division, which is now assigned as 2nd Division, III Corps, AOA and engaged Randall's Brigade at Bennett's Bayou (and fought at Tomahawk earlier in THE OZARKS CAMPAIGN)

- Bryan's Brigade, Rooney's Division, now 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, III Corps, AOA. Col. Bryan was a casualty during WIA3 and the brigade is now in command of Col. Joseph Rutter, who was the Colonel of the 245th Ohio during WIA2 and at the beginning of WIA3.

- Gowan's Division and Wales Brigade: Gowan started as a brigade commander in WIA2 and assumed command of the division from Maj. Gen. William Fairbanks, who was removed from command. Wales had been a regimental commander and took Gowan's Brigade. Gowan is now a corps commander and Wales has command of the division: from regimental command to division command in the course of 3 campaign simulations.

- Martin's Brigade - Still fighing and currently engaged with 1st Division, III Corps between the Chamte and D. Blair farms near Pilot Knob.

- Marple's Brigade - Marple was a casualty near the end of WIA2. His brigade (1st Brigade, Cavalry Division, AOA) is currently at Cross Plain observing an enemy cavalry brigade that occupies the town.

WIA reflects how armies change and transform through the course of multiple campaigns. Commanders are lost or promoted, regiments are disbanded or consolidated, guns are captured and regiment strength decreases as experience increases. With more fighting clearly on the horizon, the way the armies look now (7:10 a.m. on Day 8 of THE OZARKS CAMPAIGN) is not the way they will end the campaign.  1/III/AOA just lost a brigade commander while driving Randall's Brigade from the Chamte Farm.
