The Confederate position at Sylamore on the ridge east of Ruddell was a strong one. Piatt's II Corps (AOA) chose not to assault the position and made a sliding movement northward along the west bank of the river and then into the woods north of the Sylamore Road. III Corps (DEF) had light contact with cavalry in the woods on their far left, but their right at slave cabins was not positioned to interfere with the enemy's northward movement at all.
III Corps still has access to Sylamore Road, but it is severely threatened. In gaming terms, there is the "edge of world problem" of potential action flanks can be artificially protected by the edge of the map in the game. Because this is at the road exit, I am going to make a first time decision in the campaign and declare that:
1) III Corps DEF is outmaneuvered at Sylamore.
2) The action will move to Mt. Olive and III/DEF will withdraw and start the next turn at D. Jeffries.
3.) II AOA, if it decides to pursue, will start the next turn at D. Hively. If it does not decide to pursue, it will start the next turn at Sylamore.
