Between turns in THE OZARKS CAMPAIGN, I am "rolling for attributes" that will be assigned to regimental commanders in WIA5. The tactical aspects of WIA5 will be run 100% under AI (artificial intelligence). Regiments can be detached for duty under their regimental commander, and will appear as a sort of 1-regiment brigade in the game. The command attributes assigned to the commanders will affect how the commander and unit behaves when under AI. The attributes (which appear in the order of battle file) are:
Initiative: Affects the rallying time for broken units.
Leadership: Affects the size of the officer's command radius.
Loyalty: Affects the number of deserters when a unit is routed. (This affects how many men return the next day in the WIA simulations)
Ability: Affects the morale bonus given to subordinate units.
Quality: This also affects the command radius.
Style: Influences random behavior under AI.
Initiative, Leadership, Loyalty and Ability all have legal values from 0 to 6, with six being the worst and 6 being the best.
0 = Poor
1 = Mediocre
2 = Average
3 = Competent
4 = Good
5 = Very Good
6 = Excellent
Quality has legal values from 0 to 7, but on 0 - 6 will be allocated. The rating of 7 (crack) can only be obtained through battlefield factors in the simulation.
Style has five possible values
0 = Cautious
1 = Defensive
2 = Balanced
3 = Bold
4 = Daring
Each attribute is being randomly assigned using a roll of dice. For Initiative, Leadership, Loyalty, Ability and Quality, two twelve sided dice and a four sided die are being rolled to determine the rating as follows:
3 to 5 = 0 (poor)
6 to 9 = 1 (Mediocre)
10 to 13 = 2 (Average)
14 to 17 = 3 (Competent
18 to 21 = 4 (Good)
22 to 25 = 5 (Very Good)
26 to 28 = 6 (Excellent)
It is possible for the same office to be poor in one attribute, but excellent in another.
For style, a six sided die and four sided die are rolled to determine each officers attribute as follows:
2 - 3 = Cautious
4 - 5 = Defensive
6 -7 = Balanced
8 - 9 = Bold
10 = Daring
If a regimental commander is killed or captured during the game, the attributes for his replacement will be determined using the same method during the course of the simulation.
